Technology and learning development

We discussed in class the importance of non-verbal cues and discussed the impact adolescence has on learning development (see below). We also talked about how technology can negatively impact social development because our focus is  removed from everything else.

So for our blog post using the above chart, pick one element of development under Early or Middle Adolescence and make an argument for or against using a phone in school. Then go online and find an article that supports or negates your position and give us a brief summary of what the article states.

For example: During Early Adolescence as my intellectual interests expand I need a phone to engage more with what I'm interested in studying. The article I found talks about how 75% of students using cell phones in class are performing worse than those without. https://www.theatlantic.com/education/archive/2016/04/do-smartphones-have-a-place-in-the-classroom/480231/

Please include a link to your source in the comment as demonstrated in the example above.

  1. In Early Adolescence, cell phones can be beneficial as they can help a student study for tests and help them remember things. Cell phones can also be beneficial to parents if they need to get in contact with their child urgently. https://www.cellphones.lovetoknow.com/Pros_Of_Cell_Phones_In_School

  2. I believe that the internet is full of negative stuff that is not good for early adolescents. I is opening their minds up to too much stuff at once that is not good for their brain since it is still developing. I found an article that says it helps with social bonding and bonding a social capital.

  3. It's not a good idea to use a phone in school because a lot of cruel things such as cyber bullying could occur. As it says, the brain of a child is still developing and kids sometimes don't think and can do a lot of cruel things.

  4. In early adolescence, cell phones help students because it makes it easier to research and give them information about reality and how it works.this website states "Cell phones give students access to tools and apps that can help them complete and stay on top of their class work. These tools can also teach students to develop better study habits, like time management and organization skills"

  5. Using your phone can have a positive impact in your life like if you move very far away from good friends and you want to stay in touch with them , you can with the use of your phone. In this article I found that there are positive impacts on your phone and it also has a chart shown for different countries that say phones are good and useful. https://www.pewinternet.org/2019/03/07/majorities-say-mobile-phones-are-good-for-society-even-amid-concerns-about-their-impact-on-children/

  6. In early adolescence, using a phone in school could be beneficial for a certain class if they want to search for a specific subject or search for more information about the topic the teacher is talking about. It could also be beneficial because a parent can be able to contact their children to see if they're alright or to notify them about something important. There's also a downside since some students can get distracted or cyberbully another student while class is going on.

I found an article that states the positive and negative effects of using phones in school/class and states that "a phone can be a influential academic tool or a distraction"

  7. I believe that using phones during school should not be allowed because it is a major distraction and disrespectful to the teacher. This could lead to the student not doing well in school and harm his/her future. However, there are pros to this situation such as google classroom, but on monitored computers and not cellphones. https://cellphones.lovetoknow.com/Cons_of_Cell_Phones_in_School

  8. I believe that during Middle Adolescence, using your cell phone in class can be beneficial in some areas. Cell phones give students multiple tools and apps that can help them perform better on their studies. Yes, cell phones can also be distracting but apps such as Quizlet and photomath and so on can help students perform better at their work.

I found this website on how using cellphones in class can be both beneficial and distracting. https://www.oxfordlearning.com/should-cell-phones-be-allowed-classrooms/

  9. In my opinion I believe that during middle adolescence, using your devices such as a phone in classes is beneficial for many reasons such as helping with speech difficulties, also
for emergency use. Students that have Some conditions, such as certain forms of autism or diseases of the vocal cords, leave individuals able to understand words but unable to vocalize them. "Cell phones offer a portable and unobtrusive way to type what they want to say instead of having to say it aloud, with some phones also offers text-to-speech capabilities.”

  10. I believe that cell phones should be allowed during Middle Adolescence. Cell phones can be used as Emergency tool.Nowadays, schools get closed because of various reasons, sometimes they’re natural disasters or gunshots which have become so common in most American schools.

  11. I believe that middle adolescence should I be able to use their phones during school. Thye can be limited to certain classes. Cell phones can show reminders for homework. This can help because if you forget to do homework your phone can remind you so you don’t hand it in late.

  12. In my opinion, students should be able to use their phone in the classroom because there are lots of useful tools that are available to them (ex. calculator). But according https://www.oxfordlearning.com/should-cell-phones-be-allowed-classrooms/ students check their phones an average of 11 time per day, which can be very distracting.

  13. I think that kids should not be allowed to use phones in class because it will be a distraction. If kids used phones most likely they would not pay attention in class and their performance as a whole would decrease.

  14. I believe that using phones in school is beneficial. What if something happens in school and you need to let your family know whats going on. Phones can also be used for educational purposes like research.

  15. I think it is a good and bad idea because it saves some money when you have to buy calculators. A negative is that some can use
use this against people and take pictures of them which could lead up to bullying if they don't want their picture being taken. School should have a certain period or class when people are allowed to use their phone so they don't overrule the limit and go back and to continue doing their schoolwork.

  16. I think children of adolescence should be allowed to have their phones in school because it allows children to feel more free, so instead of sneaking their phones in class they can easily use it. Children feeling free in school can be a positive thing. It can be a positive thing because they are not always getting yelled at by a teachers which will make them more respectful towards their teachers.

  17. i think kids should be allowed to have there phone in school because lets say there mom or dad wants to tell them something important they can just call or text them instead of just calling the school and having the kid get called down to the office because as a kid i know how it feels to be called down to the office
